Meet the Taumarunui Holiday Park Team

about-usPhil and Helene Draper took over Taumarunui Holiday Park in Sep 2010. New to the industry and with previous military careers in the UK, Helene has brought Phil (a Yorkshireman) back to her home town following 16 years overseas.

Phil’s last job in the UK was on board the TS Royalist, a square-rig sail training ship, ending up as Captain for the last 3 yrs. Now land locked in Taumarunui, Helene is enjoying showing Phil what our beautiful Central Plateau, one of the last untamed wildernesses in the North Island, has to offer. Helene grew up in Taumarunui and trained her horses on most of the roads and hills around here, including the Forgotten World Highway and the 42nd Traverse. She left NZ in 1993 and has lived, worked in, and visited a wide range of countries, gaining a keen interest in other cultures and of course a love of camping! Phil and Helene are both widely travelled but also have extensive local knowledge – chances are we’ve been to your home and we can show you ours!

Owning a holiday park has been our dream for the last 7 years. We’ve done loads of camping ourselves and we’re putting the ideas we gained overseas into our own Park. While it’s hard work, we are loving it and we invite you to share in our growing story in this wonderful and very special part of New Zealand.

“I didn’t have to stay the second time but my first stay was so enjoyable that I wanted to drop in and say “Hi” to Phil and Helene as well as pat Des the dog and Julia the pet pig.”
